KUALA LUMPUR CITY TOUR (ex KL)

Despite the fast-pace development, Kuala Lumpur or more fondly referred to as KL, has managed to keep a fine balance of multi-storied buildings and historical edifices amidst luscious greenery. You will be fascinated by the garden city image of KL during the City Tour.

Chinatown - Located at the heart of KL's bustling Chinatown , Petaling Street is the place to head for those who are interested in experiencing the excitement of bargaining for their purchases. Its popular night market is a daily feature. This is a good place to purchase Chinese artifacts like figurines, incense-holders, paintings and bric- a-brac.

National Monument - Designed by the famous sculptor, Felix de Weldon, this 15.54m high bronze monument was constructed in 1966 to honour the country's fallen heroes during the Communist insurgency. It is one of the largest freestanding sculptures in the world.

King's Palace - The Istana Negara (King's Palace) is the official residence of His Majesty, the Yang Di Pertuan Agong, the King of Malaysia. It is located on a hillock at Jalan Istana, just outside the city center. The extensive ground is enhance by immaculate lawns and colourful gardens. The palace is also the venue for official functions and ceremonies. Visitors can witness the changing of guards daily.

National Museum - Located on the fringe of the Kuala Lumpur Lake Gardens , the National Museum serves as the principal museum in the country. The design of this palatial building is based on the classical Malay architecture. The various galleries in the Museum provide interesting insights into the history, political development, culture, economy, arts, flora and fauna of the country.

National Mosque - The uniquely designed mosque embodies a contemporary expression of traditional Islamic art, calligraphy and ornamentation. Its most striking feature is the multi-fold umbrella-like roof which symbolises the aspirations of an independent nation. Standing prominently against the skyline is the sleek and stylish 73m high minaret.

Independence Square & Sultan Abdul Samad Building - a stately, historic building rich in character, it was built in 1897 to house several important government departments during the British administration. This Moorish-inspired building, top by a shinny copper dome and a 40m high clock tower, is a major landmark in the city.

Selangor Pewter - Once a prolific producer of tin-ore, Selangor today is known for the world famous Royal Selangor Pewter. Pewter items are made from refined tin, antimony and copper. Favourite souvenirs among tourists are mugs, goblet, pen holders and figurines.

Batu Caves - Only 13 kilometres from Kuala Lumpur 's central business district and just outside the city limits, these famous caverns are easily accessible. The main ceiling looming over 100 meters overhead, and features ornate Hindu shrines. To reach it one has to climb a steep flight of 272 steps, a feat performed by as many as 100,000 devotees during the annual Thaipusam festival.

The Sri Mahamariamman Temple - The smell of burning jasmine, the incessant chanting of Hindu priests and the mystical aura will all combine to give you an ever-lasting impression of this fascinating religion. A short walk from here is :-

The Open Air Bazaar of Chinatown - Take a stroll through this night market where the locals engage in hectic bargaining for merchandises spread across the middle of the street. From here, we drive you to a delightful Malay restaurant where you will be treated to.

Sri Melayu Buffet and Cultural Show - Help yourself to the buffet dinner where a sumptuous variety of local delicacies await you. While you enjoy your feast, you will be entertained by an array of Malaysian Cultural Dances.


DISCOVER MALACCA TOUR (ex KL)

Depart Kuala Lumpur with a short refreshment stop along the journey. We will arrive in Malacca in about 2 ½ hours. On arrival, visit St Peter's Church (1710) the oldest Christian Church still in use in Malaysia . Stop at the foothill to view the Sultan's well before driving through the Portuguese Settlement. Proceed to view the famous gateway, 'Porta De Santiago' and the ruins of St Paul's Church lined by 17 th century Dutch tombstones. Next on the list is ' Red Square ' the salmon-pink Dutch administrative building which today houses the Malacca Museum and some other government offices.

Visit Christchurch before proceeding for lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, we visit the 'Abode of the Green Merciful Clouds' or the Cheng Hoon Teng Temple - the only temple where you can find 3 major doctrines of local Chinese belief under the same roof, viz: Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism.

Then, take a stroll along Malacca antique street which ends by the banks of the Malacca River . Our drive back includes short stop for photographs of Malay villages and plantations.

 

ROUND ISLAND TOUR (ex PEN)

Explore Penang , the " Pearl of the Orient" from its sandy shores to quaint countryside and nostalgic Georgetown . The metropolitan city combines the best of east and west as seen by its fascinating collection of fine old buildings, each bearing the stamp of different foreign influences in its colourful history. Penang is famous for its golden beaches and calm warm seas, lush greeneries and the enchanting Fishing Village along the way. Penang is also famous for its cottage industry, handy-craft, religious monuments and heritage buildings.

The tour begins with a drive through Batu Ferringhi which was also known as "Portugese Rock" in earlier days. There is a small fishing village near Teluk Bahang. The first stop is batik factory near Teluk Bahang, where you can see the process of batik making. The tour continues heading to fruits and spices plantations and stop at Titi Kerawang Waterfalls. Travel to a Malay Village where houses here are built upon stilts with rustic wooden architecture.

Our next stop, will be visiting the Snake Temple , built in 1850 and dedicated to the deity Chor Soo Kong, the temple is located 3.2km from the Penang International Airport . It is a sanctuary for pit-viper said to be the servant of the deity. These poisonous snakes, seen coiled round the pillars, beams and potted plants, within the temple are believed to be rendered harmless by the smoke of the burning incense.

You will also get the opportunity to view the Penang Bridge which links Penang island and the mainland which was officially open on September 15, 1988 . The spectacularly beautiful bridge spans 13.5km across the channel, offering a beautiful view of the open sea, ship and the sprawling coastline.

Take an enjoyable Funicular Train Ride up to Penang Hill, 830 meters above sea level and to have a panoramic view of Georgetown . Next visit, Kek Lok Si Temple, the largest Buddhist Temple in Malaysia .

Penang Hill by Funicular Train ride - Malaysia first hill station, Penang Hill is 830 meters (2730 ft) above sea level, visitors can ascend to the top by either hiking up or by the funicular railway which has been operational since 1922. Apart from the cool, refreshing climate and the fantastic view at the summit, visitors can also view the picturesque bungalow, a beautiful flower garden and a bird park.

Kek Lok Si Temple - One of the finest Buddhist temples in South East Asia , the Kek Lok Si Temple stands majestically on a hill in Ayer Itam. Built in tiers, the temple culminates with the beautifully crafted "Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas". Taking more than 20 years to built, the temple is set against beautiful scenic surroundings. It features gardens, a turtle pond, shrines and beautiful sculptures.

Georgetown is in the city of Penang named by the King George III of England . It is located at the north-eastern tip of the island. This bustling metropolitan city combines the best of east & west as seen in its fascinating collection of fine old buildings.

Tour:

You will discover the secrets that make Georgetown so attractive to many walks of life. Uncover how a number of multi-cultured people can live harmoniously together in this city.

Our tour begins with one of Penang 's famous landmark, Fort Cornwallis . Fort Cornwallis marks the spot where the British fleet, under Captain Francis Light disembarked. Although little remains of the original site, there is the Sri Rambai cannon located here to denote history. After a brief stop here, you will travel by trishaw to a traditional fishing village called Weld Quay. Next en route is St George church, one of the oldest buildings in Penang completed in 1819, then on to the Penang Museum and Art Gallery which was first used as a school. The museum has an excellent collection of memorabilia such as rickshaws, press clipping, photographs and a whole assortment of paraphernalia. This museum is well worth spending some time.

Located just a few minutes away is the Kuan Yin Teng Temple , dedicated to the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy. It is the Oldest Chinese temple in Penang . Then visit the Sri Mariamman, a typical Hindu temple with its brightly coloured sculptures and swans. This temple is situated in the very compacted Little India which is next to China Town . The next stop is at Masjid Kapitan Kling - the oldest mosque in Penang . A traditional Nyonya lunch will be served at local restaurant. After lunch, we shall stop at Wat Chaiyamangkalaram. This Buddhist temple of Thai architecture houses a 33 meter gold-plated reclining Buddha, said to be one of the longest in the world. Our last stop will be the famous Kek Lok Si temple, one of the finest Buddhist temple in South East Asia . The temple stands majestically on a hill in Ayer Hitam. Built in tiers, the temple culminates with the beautifully crafted "Pagoda of the ten thousand Buddhas". Taking more than 20 years to build, this temple is set against beautiful scenic surroundings.
