Feeling old and frumpy at 47
At 47, I knew that facials and moisturizers were not going to give me back a youthful and fresh looking face. Gravity was causing my jowls to drop and my eyes had developed bags that made me look much older. Botox is good but you are limited where you can use it. It was also costing me $5,000 a year and had to be done every 3 months, so the surgery was my only answer.

My weight was increasing and really getting me down. I had started wearing size 14 jeans, whilst my old size 11 jeans sat in my cupboard, as a reminder that I was getting old and chubby. My self esteem was pretty low at times as I don't mind getting older but I believe, in being the best I can be. If surgery could tighten my face up, narrow my nose and kick start my weight loss program, then I was going for it!

I had enquired with some Australian surgeons but the prices were so high. And I don't like private hospitals in Australia and don't believe they are well staffed (due to cost cutting and hospital budgets). So surgery in my own country was not an attractive or economical option.

I was excited about my holiday/surgery and told everyone. Some reactions were negative as the comments suggested I was being vain and superficial, but overall most people seemed a little jealous. So many people would quietly confide in me about what they had always wanted to have improved surgically. I would say to anyone that if you are not happy with something, change it! Life is too short.

One night, I was watching A Current Affairs and it featured a story on Gorgeous Getaways. That night, I started to consider that it just might be possible to have the work I had so longed to have. By the next day, I had emailed the company after checking the website out and then I phoned and a really helpful woman talked to me about cosmetic surgery and what the company could offer me.

Everything seemed so professional and the costs were so good. I was able to get a package and this really helped. Within 24 hours of seeing the program on tv, I had booked the surgery, flights and accommodation! The idea of having a gorgeous 5 star hotel to recover in and being able to experience Kuala Lumpur was so attractive and seemed so exciting.

I decided to travel alone and had no qualms about that as I read some stories from other clients of Gorgeous Getaways and they had raved about the support and care of the staff at Gorgeous Getaways, so I felt reassured that I would not be without supportive, nice people whilst I was in Kuala Lumpur.

5 star all the way

My only nervous moment occurred in the morning as I was taken to theatre. But I had been able to spend several days prior to my surgery; shopping, sightseeing and pampering myself in a 5 star hotel. It was lovely and really helped me prepare for my operation.

I was nervous because many years ago in Melbourne, I had undergone an operation and I had a bad reaction to the anesthetic But I had a consultation with the doctor doing my anesthetic in Kuala Lumpur and he was so experienced and good, that I didn't need worry. I awoke with no problems.

Dr Nasir my surgeon met with me the day before the operation. I liked him immediately because he listens to what you want, he's warm and he laughs at my jokes. Which is always good! But seriously, he is skilful, careful and good. His solid experience and training really impressed me.

The hospital was lovely. At first I thought I had walked into an art gallery. The reception was so beautiful, with art works everywhere. I had a private room that was 5 star! The staff were so wonderful. The nurses and orderlies were brilliant. I was amazed how when I would press the buzzer, it took only 30 seconds for someone to respond, with a smile and such caring warmth. It was lovely being taken care of so well and helped my recovery.

Following my surgery I was up walking to the bathroom the next morning. Liposuction was very painful but once I had started moving around and using the pain medication, it was bearable. The face and nose felt uncomfortable but not painful. The face felt like I had a tight band around the side of my head. It still feels tight but is relaxing over time as the swelling goes down.

The Gorgeous Getaways staff were lovely. From the moment you arrive in Kuala Lumpur, they are available and so friendly. At the hospital it was lovely when Jasmine would come to see me. Being alone and having my surgery was easy. I know this was because I felt so supported by the team. Gosh, one day I was out shopping and the Gorgeous Getaways nurse waited an hour for me to return as she was so concerned that I get my dressing.

Dedicated, kind and fun people work at Gorgeous Getaways. Even the lovely man who drove me to appointments would act like a tour guide, informing me about the city. Gorgeous Getaways are so good that they even gave me a complimentary massage and it felt like the best massage I had ever had, after the discomfort of surgery. Gorgeous Getaways staff are available 24/7 and it was so reassuring to know that they were there, whenever I needed them. And like Dr Nasir, they too enjoy having a laugh. Which made it more fun for me!

Keeping myself active

I was up and about the next morning. Walking slowly because the muscles in my legs were so sore. I had been warned that Liposuction is painful by Dr Nasir And it was! It felt like I had done 10 aerobics classes in a row and then been beaten by a cricket bat on the way home!

I was wearing compression pants, to help with the swelling and bruising, and this coupled with my increased exercise helped reduce the pain. I took Panadol and also had hot baths and massaged my legs, which also gave me great relief. After a week, I was walking normally and now after 2 months, I can barely remember the pain.

I am not a smoker and I also drank 2 liters of water daily. Plus I took Vitamin C and Iron to replace any nutrients in my blood from the operation. I was determined to do the best things for myself to get the best result! After a week I was exercising in the hotel gym and relaxing when I felt tired.

My recovery was about listening to my body and doing what I needed to do at that time. Some days I felt exhausted and I would have regular nana naps! Other times I felt great and I would go shopping and buy myself a gorgeous gift!

I was so happy to be heading home as I was feeling good and I couldn't wait to show off how I looked. My confidence was so high as for the first time in years I felt really cute! I still had some bruising and swelling, but my overall appearance had improved so much! I arrived in Kuala lumpur with tight jeans on but when I left, those same jeans were hanging off me. My diet improved so much too. I figured that after the pain I had undergone with Liposuction, then there was no way I would spoil my new body.

Looking and feeling hot

I am very proud to say that since my operation I have lost 8 kgs! I am now wearing Size 11 jeans and have 3 men ringing me to go out on a date! My new confidence and increased self esteem have allowed me to give off a much happier energy to people. I look good and feel good.

People are amazed at the work done and recently someone said I look 27! I had hoped to lose a little weight off my hips and remove my double chin when I first booked the surgery! However I am delighted to say, I have gained so much more than that. I now have a shapely body which is great in pants. My weight continues to drop and I feel fit! My nose is lovely and my face is so good. As time goes on, the face and nose settle in and the swelling is reduced. This only makes the work look better.

I now have the opportunity to go for positions in my workplace against other younger colleagues. I now am confident about going out with a man as I am not self conscious about my age or body or appearance. My self esteem is so good now and I feel so grateful that I had such an excellent surgeon and wonderful team looking after me!

This is the best thing I could have ever done. As I said to myself, on the morning of the operation. I deserve this. I am worth it. I can be the best I can be... My only regret is that I didn't do this years ago!

My few tips

Take Vitamins and learn the rates of exchange for the Aussie dollar. Exercise afterwards and you will recover much faster. Do laps of the hotel corridor. As I often did in the early hours of the morning. Do not get down about the bruising or swelling. It a normal part of the body healing itself. It passes as does the discomfort and pain.

Choosing Gorgeous Getaways was the smartest thing I ever did, because it was so organized and professional. I didn't have to worry about anything and felt so safe in a foreign country. I would recommend Gorgeous Getaways to people and plan to return for some minor work again. Gorgeous Getaways is the only way I would go! I wouldn't trust my health or well being to anyone else.
