| Case study - Bronwyn's Surgery Holiday In Malaysia |
As a whole, the results are looking tops - I feel like I’ve just run in off Baywatch!
(Extracted from Bronwyn's blog) Renovation rescue Today's the big day - arrive in KL for the renovation rescue of the old bod. After 4 kids I'm ready to rescue everything that has gone south. Planned are an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), breast lift/reduction and maybe some lipo. Might get them to give me some advice on the face while I'm here. It seems nearly everyone speaks English. Communication has been very easy and there is a supermarket around the corner with a good range of produce. They will also delivery to the room (there's a shopping list here) for free. Very handy. Tomorrow I will meet with the girls from Gorgeous Getaways and find out what is coming up for me. Anyway, the hospital turned out to be not far from Lanson Place, it’s very palatial with lots of marble in the foyer. And the rooms where I am, in the premier wing are really lovely. Dr Jalil came to see me without much delay. He’s very straightforward and I felt confident in him. At about 10.30am he told me that surgery was scheduled for about 12, but first I would need to undergo some preliminary screenings for blood, and ECG for heart, blood pressure etc. He offered me a pre-med if I was feeling nervous. I met the anaesthetist, a lovely lady who called very comforting and really thorough. I was not concerned at all. Having already had 4 ceasers, and surgery for an eptopic pregnancy and appendix I feel reasonably familiar with the OT. My surgery took about 8 hours, and I have no memory of being delivered back to my room, but I was really well looked after once there. Back to the hotel and all is well. Speaking of food I have to say that the food in the hospital has been brilliant – absolutely delicious. I have chosen mainly Malay dishes and they have been extra tasty! I did have a lady at the GG support group tell me that the food was not good – we must like different things. My nurse tells me that I am fortunate that because I am in good health I do not have a restricted menu – perhaps this is the difference? The GG nurse comes for the first few days after your surgery to clean and dress your wounds. She is very friendly and has a very happy face. Importantly, my wounds are looking very good – really clean and neat. The nurse bathed them with sterile saline and put antibiotic ointment on them. A side trip It’s been almost a month since my surgery. After the excitement of fast transition I guess I’m now in that middle territory – slow (and boring) healing. The slow healing is the stuff that they leave out of shows like Extreme Makeover because it’s pretty much uneventful. Little personal victories; a bit more exercise or a bit less scab on a wound don’t make for very exciting viewing (or reading). Admittedly I’m in a pretty lush position here on an extended holiday in Bali. Recuperating this way has a lot of advantages. Not only am I relieved from most of the household chores, I have help with the children and I have access to a gym at home. I still cook most meals but if I didn’t want to, I wouldn’t have to. A new view - 6 weeks later On the boob front; my starlet style boobs have deflated somewhat. They are now flatter though the nipple retains its nice ‘perky’ position. I have no problems with sensation on either the breasts or the nipple, though the breast is still a little sensitive. That said, I am very happy with the results. My bra straps no longer cut into my shoulders and give me that terrible neck and headache I’d get before. I no longer have that sweaty feeling or chaffing under my boobs, and I love that I can wear a tank top without a bra! Even though I remain trussed up in my compression garment I feel liberated. I look like I’m all one piece of person – before I felt really disconnected from the bottom half of my body. I used to have to tuck the extra folded skin away to get dressed, and battle to find undies big enough to stay up above the overhang. Also the additional weight from my stomach meant I always had lower back pain. That is now gone. Sure I have a huge scar. But I used to have my caesarean scars tucked under my stomach overhang anyway. My belly button is healed now and the shape is looking better. There is still a very obvious scar line but I expect this will reduce over time. Quite frankly, I’m so happy to have a tum that I am happy to show, I’m little concerned about the belly button scar at this time. My liposuction seems completely healed. I no longer have any bruises. Some areas still feel a little sensitive to touch, but apart from a few marks where the needle went in there isn’t anything to see apart from awesome results. So as a whole the results are looking tops. I have even been able to buy a bikini from a stall on the beach so I could take a swim on impulse. Not even any mirrors to try it on first! Check it out – I feel like I’ve just run in off Baywatch!
