Weight loss side effects

After losing a lot of weight slowly over many years, I was left with a lot of excess skin on my arms and tummy (in other areas too - but these seemed the worst).

It was a disappointment after working for so many years to lose weight to still not be able to wear whatever I wanted and actually feel slim.

After consulting a GP about what I thought was persistent weight, he explained that it was mostly not fat but excess, stretched skin, that could only be removed by surgery.

I spoke to a couple of cosmetic surgeons in Australia but was struck by the prohibitive cost of the procedure (at this point, I was really worried about my arms).

Having then moved to Singapore, I once again began to investigate the procedure and its cost. A search of the internet led me to Gorgeous Getaways. It seemed to be a much more cost-friendly, supportive way of having the surgery safely.

Physical and mental preparations

I wasn't really nervous - more excited. I had a very good supportive friend who agreed to come with me and I'm sure I wouldn't have gone ahead with the surgery after consultation if I wasn't comfortable.

The surgeon was very helpful, friendly and approachable, the staff of Gorgeous Getaways were excellent in supporting me - at all times they were friendly and professional. The hospital was also great; at times language was a minor issue but the Gorgeous Getaways staff were helpful here too.

Once I started to feel well (it only took me a day or so). I was pretty comfortable and relaxed. i guess I saw it all as a step towards achieving a goal.

I did prepare for a couple of months with some serious gym training (I had heard that the best results are achieved when you are carrying the least possible weight). This probably helped a little, although I wasn't able to back to that level for a while and as I'm very prone to putting on weight. I think I did undo some of the good!

Hey, no sweat!
I was only a little nervous on the day. I have to admit I was most nervous about seeing the hospital. Coming from Australia and Singapore, I wasn't sure what it would be like.

The admission and consultation went very well, but unfortunately I was the last surgery for the day so that was a bit of a wait.

After the surgery, I felt surprisingly good and had little problem with pain management. I was given a little button to press if I felt any pain and that was fantastic! I think I took sleeping tablets for the first two nights only. I did have very sore feet from lying still on the table for so long. That seems to be the point I remember the clearest!

I was allowed to back to the hotel as soon as I could stand and walk which was on the third day.

Just excited to get home
I stayed in KL from Monday (surgery day) to Sunday (I think), while I was in the hotel I used the sauna everyday (doctors' orders) and in the last day, was able to do some gentle walking in the gym.

I was excited to get home - having lived in Asia for a while and having visited KL before I didn't really view this as tourist experience. I just wanted to get home!

I was a little nervous, mostly about going back to work. This I did after about two weeks and I was a little fragile but it was all fine. The post-surgery garments were a bit of an issue at times (I had to go on school camp after only a few weeks) but overall this wasn't really a big problem.

Positive on all aspects

People have definitely noticed a change. The improvement in my shape because of the tummy surgery is quite significant. I think there is a definite improvement in my arms too. The scars are noticeable, but I always knew this would be the case.

If anything, I think my arms are not quite the same in shape - the surgeon commented on this and said that it is not uncommon for people's arms to be different shapes and sizes. If anything this would be my only issue with the whole process....

Overall, though it has definitely had a positive effect on all aspects of my life.

I think I had done quite a bit of research before I went for my holiday. However, I would recommend surgery to anyone who has considered it and wondered if it was the right path. The discomfort, etc. is well worth it for the end result.

The staff at Gorgeous Getaways were excellent and certainly made the whole process streamlined and easy. I would recommend their services without question, to friends, family or anyone considering surgery.
